Columbia Business School

As everybody knows, Columbia is essentially a finance school and now addressing entrepreneurship as well.

I wish I can get back to my first day at Columbia and write down all interesting and/or precious experiences from the very beginning. What I can do, however, probably is to note some take-aways from the most important courses I am currently taking. I believe that I should read these take-aways and recall discussions from time to time, as long as I am still in the business profession.

This semester I learn most from Value Investing (Prof. Bruce Greenwald), Economics of Strategic Behavior (Prof. Bruce Greenwald, again), Top Management Process (Prof. E. Ralph Biggadike), Innovate or Die (Prof. Jeffrey Harris) and Napoleon's Glance (Prof. William Duggan).
MBA program

每年总共约600多人。
A-H八个cluster， 每个cluster60人，秋天入学。另外有J-Term，X,Y,Z三个cluster，一月入学。一年级的时候上核心课程，始终和自己cluster的人在一起。有相关基础的可以参加考试，通过就可以Exempt掉相应的课程，同时省下来的学分可以选修别的课程。

J-Term夏天不实习，继续上课，5-8月是一个完整的学期，这样秋天的时候进度就和 cluster A-H 一样了，这时候所有二年级的学生选修自己喜欢的课，不再按cluster上课。

学校要求至少有4个学期每个学期修满12个学分以上，总共60个学分才可以毕业。每个学期最多可以修16.5分。12-16.5分学费都一样。一般3分的课每周三个小时（周一/三或周二/四，两次1.5小时或者一次3小时），上满一学期。1.5分的课只上半学期。

成绩分三档，H(honor,top 15%), HP (high pass) and P (pass, bottom 15%). 一般只要去上课，发言，考试都能过。我个人不重视成绩。面试也没有人问。学校也不向公司提供成绩单。

选修是通过一个网上投标系统。每个学生总共有12000点的样子，有一些奖励什么的调整，幅度很小。学期快结束的时候开始下学期选修投标。所有课程时间、 教授、学生额度（少的不到20人，多的200+人，一般60人左右，由教授定）、前两年学生对该课程或教授的评价和投标的情况等等一一罗列。共五轮，每轮 截止前任何时候都可以修改投标，但只有第一天可以drop以前投得的课程。Winneres pay the lowest-sealed price. 最后还有一轮是bidding on waitlist。 学期开始还可以drop/add, 如果有座位空出来由waitlist上的人顺序递补。

我知道的最贵的课是这学期Top Management Process，成功的bid中最低的是8500左右。这门课和High Performance Leadership一道是最好的两门关于general management的选修课，座位都只有60，High Performance Leadership一学期开两个Session。很多人（包括我）因为害怕High Performance Leadership的老师Michael Feiner(http://www0.gsb.columbia.edu/whoswho/bio.cfm?id=55263&nav=n) 转而投向Top Management Process (http://www0.gsb.columbia.edu/whoswho/bio.cfm?id=100&nav=n)

很多人认为上他一门课全部学费都值回票价了. 后面有机会详细介绍。

核心课程由学校分配老师,靠运气.很多老师是两年才上一次课.
